Osgood, Robert Bayley (1873–1956), American orthopedic surgeon. Osgood was a professor of orthopedic surgery and chief of staff of the orthopedic department at a Boston hospital. He published several texts on orthopedic surgery and was one of the authors of a 1909 monograph on diseases of the bones. In 1903 he described painful lesions of the tibial tuberosity in children and adolescents.
Schlatter, Carl (1864–1934), Swiss surgeon. A professor of surgery at Zurich, Schlatter is best known for performing the first successful total gastrectomy in 1897. He published, also in 1903, an independent description of the same disease described by Osgood. The disease is now known as Osgood-Schlatter's disease.
